‘Thali of Love’
*Short Film
Link to Film

"Thali of Love" is a short film I wrote and directed, weaving the Indian meal Thali into a metaphor for how food speaks the language of love. A Thali, being a collection of many small dishes, became my way of showing how each dish can hold an emotion, a memory, or a cherished moment, capturing the tenderness and depth of these expressions. Rooted in my experiences growing up in Indian culture and enriched by stories from family and friends, the film reflects on food exists as an unspoken love language, deeply personal yet universally understood. Shown below are some film stills.

‘Detangling Colonialism’
*Designed Dissertation

"Detangling Colonialism" is my university dissertation that I wrote, designed and printed exploring how Eurocentric beauty standards, shaped by colonialism, have influenced perceptions of hair within South Asian feminine identity, both in the diaspora and in India. Inspired by my own experience of growing up and rarely seeing my textured hair represented in media, it examines how colonialism may have embedded Western ideals into Indian beauty norms, redefining femininity and erasing natural diversity, one of these beauty standards being that of hair. Designed with photographs of textured hair cutting into the text to symbolically reclaim agency, the work also includes a supplementary booklet of case studies relevant to the research.
